How to Jailbreak Your PS4 (Firmware 12.02 or Lower) with GoldHEN

Is your PS4 on firmware 12.02 or lower? Do you want to unlock its full potential? This guide shows you how to jailbreak your PS4 using GoldHEN. This method works for PS4s with firmware versions from 11.00 to 12.02.

Important: This jailbreak only works on PS4s with firmware 12.02 or lower. If you've updated to 12.52 or higher, this guide won't work for you. There is currently no public jailbreak tool for PS4 12.52.

What You Need

  • A PS4 with firmware 12.02 or lower.
  • A USB drive.
  • A specific game (listed below).
  • A computer with internet access.

Step 1: Prepare Your PS4

Before you start, you need to prepare your PS4 to prevent any issues during the jailbreak process.

  1. Check for Updates: Go to Notifications and then Downloads. Cancel and delete any pending software updates.
  2. Disable Internet Connection: Go to Settings, then Network, and turn off "Connect to Internet."
  3. Disable Automatic Downloads: Go to Settings, then System, then Automatic Downloads. Uncheck all the boxes.
  4. Check Your Firmware Version: Go to Settings, then System, then System Information. Make sure your system software version is 12.02 or lower.

Step 2: Update to Firmware 12.02 (If Needed)

If your PS4 is on a firmware lower than 12.02, you might want to update to 12.02 to use GoldHEN.

  1. Download Firmware 12.02: Download the official PS4 firmware 12.02 from a trusted source.
  2. Prepare USB Drive: Plug a USB drive into your computer. Make sure it's formatted as FAT32 or exFAT. If not, reformat it (back up any important data first).
  3. Create Folders: On the USB drive, create a folder named "PS4" (all uppercase). Inside that folder, create another folder named "UPDATE" (all uppercase).
  4. Copy and Rename the Update File: Copy the downloaded firmware file into the "UPDATE" folder. Rename the file to "PS4UPDATE.PUP" (all uppercase).
  5. Update Your PS4: Plug the USB drive into your PS4. Go to Settings, then System Software Update. Your PS4 should find the update file on the USB drive. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the update.

Step 3: Get the Modified Save File

This jailbreak uses a modified save file from a specific game to trigger the exploit. You'll need one of the supported games to proceed.

  • Supported Games: These are often Japanese-only games. You can find them on sites like Play Asia, CD Japan, or eBay. Check the project page for the most up-to-date list of supported games.

The game mentioned is Dashy Creative.

Method 1: Restore a Backup (Resets Your PS4)

This method is the simplest, but it will reset your PS4 to a previous state. Back up your current PS4 data first if you want to keep your saves and installed games.

  1. Back Up Your Current PS4 (Important): Plug a USB drive into your PS4. Go to Settings, then System, then Back Up and Restore. Choose "Back Up PS4" and follow the instructions. Copy the backup folder from the USB drive to your computer for safekeeping.
  2. Download the Backup with Modified Save: Download the backup file that contains the modified save files.
  3. Restore the Backup: Plug the USB drive with the downloaded backup into your PS4. Go to Settings, then System, then Back Up and Restore. Choose "Restore PS4" and select the backup file.

Method 2: Use a Save Editor (More Complex, Doesn't Reset PS4)

This method is more complex.

  1. Create a Dummy Save File: Start the supported game on your PS4 and create a new save file.
  2. Copy the Save File to USB: Plug a USB drive into your PS4. Go to Settings, then Application Saved Data Management, then Saved Data in System Storage, then Copy to USB Storage Device. Copy the save file for the game to the USB drive.
  3. Decrypt, Modify, and Encrypt the Save File: This step involves using a save editor to replace your save file with the modified one. You can use a tool like the Apollo Save Tool or a Discord save bot.
  4. Copy the Modified Save File Back to Your PS4: Plug the USB drive back into your PS4. Go to Settings, then Application Saved Data Management, then Saved Data in USB Storage, then Copy to System Storage. Copy the modified save file back to your PS4.

Step 4: Install GoldHEN

GoldHEN is the homebrew enabler that allows you to run homebrew applications and games on your jailbroken PS4.

  1. Format USB Drive: Get another USB drive and format it as FAT32.
  2. Download GoldHEN: Download the latest version of GoldHEN.
  3. Copy GoldHEN to USB: Copy the GoldHEN .bin file to the root of the USB drive. Rename the file to "payload.bin".
  4. Run the Jailbreak: Launch the supported game on your PS4. This will trigger the modified save file.
  5. Load the Payload: The game will load the payload from the USB drive. GoldHEN should now be running.

Step 5: Install Homebrew (Optional)

Now that you have jailbroken
