Want to jailbreak your PlayStation 5? This guide shows you how to do it on firmware versions up to 7.61. We'll cover the easiest method using a Blu-ray disc.
Warning: Jailbreaking your PS5 can void your warranty and may violate Sony's terms of service. It could also damage your console. This guide is for informational purposes only. We do not support piracy or illegal activities.
Checking Your Firmware Version
First, check your PS5's firmware version:
- Go to Settings.
- Scroll down to System.
- Select System Software.
- Choose Console Information.
Your firmware version is the number after the first set of digits. This guide works for firmware versions 3.00 to 7.61. However, if you are on firmware 6.00 or lower, using a web browser is a much easier way of jailbreaking your PS5. If you're on an older firmware than 6.0 check out my previous jailbreak guide on how to jailbreak using the web it's going to be much better for you. If not, keep reading.
What You Need
To use this method, you'll need:
- A PS5 with a disc drive.
- A working disc drive.
- A blank BD-R Blu-ray disc. BD-RE discs are best because you can rewrite to them with new updates.
- A Blu-ray disc writer connected to your computer. You can get an external one that connects with USB.
Changing Key Settings
Before you start, change these settings on your PS5:
- Go to Settings.
- Select System.
- Choose System Software.
- Select Update Settings.
- Turn off Download Update Files Automatically and Install Update Files Automatically. This stops your PS5 from updating on its own.
If you plan to connect your PS5 to the internet, follow these steps to add a DNS blocker. This will protect your console from automatically downloading and installing updates.
- Go to Settings.
- Select Network.
- Choose Set Up Internet Connection.
- Select your network and press the Options button.
- Go to Advanced Settings.
- Change DNS Settings from Automatic to Manual.
- Set the Primary DNS and Secondary DNS to: 62.210.107.38
- Click OK.
Note: The DNS server address may change. Check the description for any updates.
Preparing the Blu-ray Disc
Next, you need to prepare the Blu-ray disc with the jailbreak files:
On your computer, download the jailbreak ISO file from Victorious X. There may be different ISO's in the future so check the description to ensure you have the most up-to-date version.
Download these homebrew applications from pkg-zone.com:
- Homebrew Store for PS5
- Itemsflow Game Manager
Download the Homebrew Loader package file from John Tornlum's repo.
Insert the Blu-ray disc into your Blu-ray writer.
Right-click on the ISO file and select the option to burn the disc image.
Select your Blu-ray drive.
Check the box to verify after writing. This makes sure the data is written correctly.
Click the option to burn the disc.
If Windows' built-in Blu-ray burner doesn't work well, use ImgBurn. You can download it online.
- Open ImgBurn.
- Select Write disc image file to disc.
- Drag and drop the ISO file onto the software. Or, click the folder button to find it.
- Select the option to write the disc image.
After the burn is done, the software should say the operation was completed successfully.
Setting Up Your USB Drive
Now, prepare your USB drive:
Plug the USB drive into your computer.
Make sure the USB drive is formatted as FAT32. To check, right-click on the drive and go to Properties. If it's not FAT32, reformat it. Warning: Reformatting will erase all data on the drive. Back up your files first.
Copy the homebrew apps you downloaded to the root of the USB drive. Do not put them in a folder.
Eject the USB drive and plug it into one of the back USB ports on your PlayStation 5. The back ports are the faster ones.
