PS4 Jailbreak News: GoldHEN 12.52 Update and PS5 Jailbreak Reality

It's been a busy few weeks for PlayStation jailbreaking. There's not much new with the PS5, but a lot has been happening with the PS4. This is common when a new jailbreak comes out for one system. Developers tend to focus on one system at a time. Right now, that focus is on the PS4, but it will shift back to the PS5 eventually.

PS4 Updates

New System Software: 12.52

The PS4 has a new system software update, bringing the firmware to 12.52. This update includes security fixes. If you're on firmware 12.50, it's best to stay there. It looks like version 12.52 has patched something, so stay on a lower firmware if you can.

Revert Mod

The revert mod lets you go back to a previously installed firmware. If you update from 12.50 to 12.52, your previous firmware will be 12.50, which is not jailbreakable. If you are on 12.52 your console can likely be reverted to a jailbreakable firmware with the revert method. This involves soldering, so it may not be for everyone. However, you might be able to find a mod or repair shop that can do it for you.

PS4HEN Support

Firmware 12.50 and 12.52 now support the PS4HEN payload. This means that if a new jailbreak comes out for 12.52, you'll be able to load PS4HEN on it. You will be able to jailbreak it as soon as a bin loader is available. However, there is not a jailbreak available yet. Some people have updated based on this information, but you need an actual jailbreak to load the payload.

PS2 Games

PS2 games are being dumped and turned into fake packages. Many games that couldn't be dumped before are now available. There are many PS2 games and some less common PS4 games that were only available as digital downloads are now available as fake packages. You can run these on your jailbroken PS4.

GoldHEN Update

GoldHEN version 2.4 B18.4 was released with support for 12.00 and 12.01. This is just the previous version of GoldHEN with added support for 12.00 and 12.01. There are no new features in this version. There is a bug where the console sometimes fails to shut down. The light just blinks, and it doesn't turn off. This seems to be a hasty release to add support for 12.00 and 12.01.

A more significant update is in the works. Chameleon is looking into the semi-persistent method that Al-Azif talked about. This could let you keep GoldHEN running without having to rerun the jailbreak every time you restart the console.

There have also been improvements to the open-source PS4HEN project. It works on firmware 5.05 up to 12.01. A new plugins feature has been added that adds a few different plugins. These include:

  • TP server plugin
  • Kernel log plugin
  • Shell UI plugin

The Shell UI plugin adds a new menu option called "HEN Settings" to the settings menu. This menu has options like a package installer. It lets you install packages from the web or USB. It also has a payload menu that lets you customize the HEN settings. You can enable and disable plugins, the firmware update blocker, and other options. You have to restart the console and run HEN again for these changes to take effect.

Homebrew Applications

Most homebrew applications are firmware agnostic. Applications like Apollo Save Tool, PS4 Cheats Manager, Homebrew Store, Itemzflow, and PS4 Explorer version 2 mostly work without any changes. LightningMods has released a new update for Itemzflow to add support for new features.

Here are the changes:

  • A new option to copy from the PFS image.
  • Updated FUSE offsets. FUSE is the NFS share feature that lets you run games directly from an NFS share instead of local storage.
  • Fixed an issue causing Itemzflow custom themes to load. This creates more stability with custom themes.
  • Ukrainian language support.
  • An option to not ask about downloading covers at startup.

There's also a default font added, updated package patch detection for the package installer, and fixes to Itemzflow versioning.

Remote Lua Loader

The Remote Lua Loader has had a few small updates. There's a new game that was added, Kuso 14324. Other games either have support already or will likely get support soon. The list is available on the PS4 Developer Wiki. The Remote Lua Loader now shows your IP address when you load it. This makes it easier to send payloads.

PS5 Updates

Blu-ray Drive Exploit

There have been a few updates for the Blu-ray drive exploit. It's now on version 19 of Victorious X's ESO. This is the auto jailbreak user, which includes the PSS. The UI has been updated.

Here are some of the options:

  • Remote JAR Loader: Lets you send payloads remotely over the network.
  • USB JAR Loader: Lets you load payloads from a USB drive.
  • Payloads: Includes normal payloads and
