PS5 & PS4 Jailbreak Updates: New Exploits, Tools, and RetroArch News

Big news for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 owners keeps coming in 2025. We have seen important updates about new ways to access the systems. This includes a kernel vulnerability that affects both PS4 and PS5. Developers are making progress on new tools and features. These breakthroughs aim to make your console experience more flexible. New payloads, remote control options, and updates to popular homebrew tools are all part of this exciting time.

A Look at the New Kernel Vulnerability

Recent reports highlight a new "double free" kernel vulnerability. This flaw affects both the PS4 and PS5. It allows for new ways to gain control over the consoles' software. Proof-of-concept tests have been run on various PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 firmware versions. This testing helps developers create working exploits for different systems.

For the PlayStation 4, this vulnerability works on firmware versions up to 12.02. Sony later patched it in firmware 12.50. This means if your PS4 is on version 12.02 or lower, it is likely vulnerable. Developers often build and test exploits on already jailbroken consoles. This makes the development process easier. Once an exploit works on an older, vulnerable system, they can then port it to newer firmware versions that share the same flaw.

The situation for the PlayStation 5 is a bit different. Initially, experts thought the vulnerability would work up to firmware 10.60. However, attempts to trigger it on 10.60, 10.40, and 10.20 did not succeed. The highest confirmed vulnerable firmware version for the PS5 is now 10.00. It seems Sony patched this vulnerability in firmware 10.20, which came out in October 2024. This timing is somewhat surprising, as the PS4 version of the patch came much later, in March 2025. Despite this, other kernel vulnerabilities, like the one from TheFloW, still exist for PS5 firmware up to 10.40. This means users on 10.20 or 10.40 firmware still have options.

Developers are quickly getting ready for these new exploits. Updates to existing payloads are already here. For example, Echo has updated its payloads to support firmware 11.52. HenVTX also added support for firmware versions 11.00, 11.50, and 11.52. These payloads cannot run yet without a working kernel exploit for these firmwares. However, they are ready for when such an exploit becomes available. Master S9 also released the PS Remote Lua Loader. This tool helps send Lua scripts. These scripts can trigger the "double free" vulnerability. You can find essential tools and updates for these processes at https://psjailbreak1.blogspot.com/.
